In an era that champions rights and equality,
Restrictive laws continue to undermine autonomy and dignity.
The criminalization of abortion and the denial of maternal care,
Do not serve justice—only deepen despair.
Bodily agency—once assumed to be a fundamental right,
Now stands at the crossroads of policy and political might.
But how do we call it “democracy” when her body is confined by law?
Where the state governs her womb, where her freedom is flawed?
Where policies are paraded as shields of care,
Yet all they do is leave women ensnared?
Laws were crafted, promising choice, promising hope—
Yet the MTP Act and PCPNDT Act remain nothing but a fragile rope.
When healthcare is a crime and mercy is banned,
A woman’s fate is no longer in her own hands.
Shall we stand idly as their voices are drowned?
As fear becomes law and justice is bound?
Nay! Let statutes bend, let walls collapse,
Let justice rise where darkness grasps.
The right to choose, the right to live,
The right to take, the right to give.
With this ladies and gentlemen, we bring forth the fifth committee to be simulated at SAJMUN’25:
The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) –
Agenda: Addressing the loss of bodily autonomy of women, with special emphasis
on the criminalization of abortion laws and maternal mortality.
This May,
Let legislation serve as a safeguard, not a shackle.
This May,
Conceive. Concur. Convince.
